I have had Star since she was a weanling and I have started her slow and correct. She is neck reining and yields to leg pressure. She has a very soft mouth and a nice headset. I think she would make an awesome youth western pleasure, trail, or 4-h horse with some proper training. She has the slow trot that comes natural and would just need some work on slowing her lope.
Initially I had planned to make her a barrel horse but she would definitely be a push style horse because she is laid back. She has been trail riding in the badlands of ND and did great. I can take this horse anywhere and she never gives me any problems. She has been ridden in town with cars passing and doesn't bat an eye at it. That's not to say she doesn't have her moments, like all horses do, but she is very manageable. You could ride her in a halter and lead and be just fine. She also rides bareback but I haven't tried riding double on her, although I'm sure she would be fine. I also can leave her for months at a time and get on with a halter and lead and she doesn't give me problems.
She stands for farrier, bathes, loads easily, trailers fine, and I can clip her hair- including ears- without a twitch. No buck, kick, bite, or rear. She is as gentle as they come. She gets along with other horses but shes normally the one that they pick on. She trail rides fine by herself, in the front of the group, or in the back. Goes anywhere you ask her.
I would consider trades on horses 5-9yrs old that would have potential for barrels. Must be registered. Many photos available upon request.

This is a video of Star taken on 3/18/12, she had never seen the pole pattern or anything like this before this video. This was also her first show since she was 2yrs old.

*UPDATE* Star has been started on the barrel pattern and is trotting and loping consistently. She could make a good youth barrel horse with some more work.
