Tenor de Negrito (aka: Tenor) was born August 2000. He is a 12-year old purebred, black, Lusitano gelding imported from Canada in 2004.
Sire is: Negrito (imported from Portugal). Dam is: Banana (imported from Portugal). Bred by Frank Grelo at Cedar Mills Farm in the Toronto area.
He was gelded in 2007 at the age of seven. It is still a great challenge to safely turn him out with other horses, but, has been accomplished successfully in the past in 2009 and 2010 with a herd containing a very strong alpha quarter horse mare. Currently, he is turned out alone because I no longer have a herd I can turn him out in. I would love for him to find a herd or another horse he can safely be turned out with.
Tenor is registered with the International Lusitano & Andalusian Horse Association. He also has a lifetime horse registration with USDF and was shown successfully through 2nd level in 2009 & 2010.
He is confident and is one of the friendliest horses I have ever met. An intelligent, fast learner, Tenor enjoys learning new things, but, hates repetition or routine. I find he does not enjoy repetitive arena work. We have been spending a lot of time playing the Parelli Seven Games in order to keep his mind active and interested. He jumps the blue barrels confidently and with ease. He has a very strong, dominate personality, but, for the most part, has pretty good ground manners and easily moves away from pressure.
The reason I am selling Tenor is because I am a dressage rider and I struggle to keep him motivated and forward in this type of work. I am parting with him because I want him to be used for something he enjoys. I want him to be happy in his work. If you follow the Parelli program, he is a (very) Left Brained Introvert.
Tenor is 16.1 and extremely athletic with lovely movement when motivated or interested.
Correct build, healthy and current on all inoculations and de-worming. Tenor has never coliced or been lame in the 11-years I have owned him. However, he does have terrible seasonal allergies June through about September. I keep him on antioxidants and Black As Night which I order from SmartPaks. After extensive allergy testing, it was concluded that it is a good possibility that his allergies stem from fly bites.
Potential use includes Natural Horsemanship, eventing, jumping, driving, cow work or anything to keep his mind active, interested and stimulated. He shuts down and will not be motivated or forward if kept too long in a repetitive pattern or routine. HE WILL BUCK if he gets bored or unmotivated. Whips and spurs are not the answer with this horse. I do use a whip when I ride him, but, its more about keeping him interested and engaged mentally.
Tenor knows the Parelli games. He loads easily and ties. He has been trail ridden, but, not by me.
Tenor is looking for someone to give him the creative motivation and positive stimulation that will motivate him. And of course, a forever home. Owner would like first buy back rights to Tenor.
I paid $15,000 for Tenor as a yearling in 2001. His price is $15,000 which is exactly what I purchased him for in 2001. Price is negotiable to a loving, forever home. Payment plan or lease to own may be available to the right home. He is located in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin.
Please feel free to forward this email to anyone you think may be interested in Tenor.
