Carmel had been through a series of rough homes before she came to us. Her previous owners meant well, but had little to no horse knowledge. They had her on a strictly grain diet, and she was very malnourished. She has pretty severely bowed rear legs, and has ringbone in at least the hind legs as well. This means that she will not be able to work (can't pull a cart, can't "ride" for young children) though she would be very content to let a tiny kiddo sit on her back while being lead around at a walk. In her daily life, these disabilities do not slow her down a bit.She runs and chases the other horses around, and our vet has determined that she is not in any pain. She will need her hooves done on a strict schedule of at least 8 weeks to help correct some of the wear she gets on her hooves due to the bow, and will need yearly dentals. However, other than that, she will make an excellent friend for whoever is lucky enough to take her home! She loves other horses, and gets along with both mares and geldings fine. She could be a great pasture pal for your lonely horses!
The picture is from the first day she came to us- email for more recent photos.
