48' Sundowner 9 PLUS horse, Sunlite 761

I no longer intend to be making my runs to Tennessee for horses and therefore am offering my fantabulous Sundowner 9 plus horse trailer, and the Custom converted International hauler for sale.

Trailer is till under structural warranty from Sundowner.

It took me a long time to put this unit together, and I love the versatility, reliability and safety. I can unload any horse in there without moving another horse, or move most horses inside the trailer without unloading another horse. No ducking drop down feed doors or crawling over and around animals to feed or water.


The trailer is 48 feet overall length. The inside trailer height is 7'6". The horse area is 8' wide. The trailer is still under warranty from Sundowner for structural integrity.

2 speed jack, spare tire, battery box and reservoir for the hydraulic over electric brake system. You don't have to have a truck with a compressor and air brakes to pull her. My International only has an air brake as the parking brake, so you don't have to be able to handle air brakes to drive her either.

Back ramp is 7' 1" wide and coated with a non slip rubber that works real well. Spring loaded and very easy to put up. Cam lever rear doors. If loading from the back I usually spread the 2 back stalls (swing very easily) so that it invites the horse to walk on up easily. If you open the back aisle it is easy to take a horse all of the way to the front if you want to. When loading the back 3 horses (If I have the dividers in there) it is easy to swing the dividers to one side and then the other for ease of loading. I usually load the center horse in the back last and then exit out of the back 3' wide access door. I do have the padding for all of the chest and rump bars.

Access door in aisle way across from front ramp. It has a padded chain to keep horses from stepping out if you have them in the aisle. It is not only handy for entering the trailer and taking care of horses in there on the road, but is super convenient to just quickly check everyone out and see how they are doing when you stop. Full height and 3' wide. The front ramp also has a padded chain to help prevent unauthorized exits. I have been known to draw quite a crowd at a rest stop or truck stop with 3 foals loose in the aisle as they peek out of the trailer while I am watering everybody.

Doors separating center horse section from the rear section. Full length so a horse in the center section can't kick you while you are doing something with a horse in the back section. Doors are double walled and coated. Spring latch that can be locked in the "open" position. Doors swing either way and fit into the 3' back aisle easily.

All dividers are removable. It can be converted from 9 horse stalls 34" x 7' to four large stalls, or you can remove everything and make it one huge 40' of floor space compartment. I of coarse have the dividers for the center.

Side ramp is a full 5' 6" wide rather than those spooky 3' wide things on many of the larger trailers. Horses don't tend to try to jump off of it wither loading or unloading like they do with the narrow ones. Also spring loaded and easy to put up. The rubber non slip coating works real well even when wet. There is an extra beam on the frame under the ramp to strengthen the side and floor. When they first started making larger aluminum trailers they found that after a few years they started to sag. This fixed that problem. The reflective tape on the side of the trailer is real bright so you are easily seen at night. The trailer not only has 19" x 53" windows that slide open, there are 12 butterfly vents and the smaller windows also slide open for good ventilation. Overheating is a problem in a lot of larger trailers. Not in this one. It can be buttoned up tight for winter hauling if desired. It is amazing how much heat the horses put off. Of coarse mats in the horse area, and there is also a sun coating on all lower areas of the horse compartment. The front aisle is 10' wide.

The tack room has 5' of floor space, blanket bar, 2 6 headstall bridle racks, a brush tray, is fully carpeted and has an access door to the horse compartment. I put hay in the tack room as I wasn't hauling a bunch of saddles. The roof vent in the tack room is also reinforced for an air conditioner. Of coarse there is interior light too. I sleep in there while I am on the road. I have a queen size bed in the goose and room for "stuff" up there too. There is also a clothes hanger on the roof of the goose. If one wanted to put "stuff" in the front of the horse compartment you could remove the dividers and carry a whole bunch of hay, supplies, tack etc. and still easily haul 9 or 10 horses. It is easy to access hay and other stuff in the front of the trailer thru this door. There are 11 tie rings around the outside of the trailer. Slide in step into tack room. Tack room door is 4' wide; stuff is easy to get in and out.
