2010 Black Roan Gelding by Dock, started under saddle
Meet Traveler: a lovely, sweet-natured gelding out of a Maple's Squirrel granddaughter, who was a high point conformation filly. He has a wonderful personality, and loves to have his face held and petted. Just yesterday (10/14/12), my assistant's three year old boy led him around for nearly 1/2 an hour without any trouble (he'd been gelded just two days prior!).
He was raised using mostly Clinton Anderson methods (they really work!), so he responds to body language and gentle cues. He comes when called, even when he sees his halter, and he can be groomed, sprayed, clipped and led without a halter, and stands very quietly for the farrier.
We call him "Traveler," because within a few minutes after he was foaled, he got up and gaited around without his mother for at least 2 hours before taking a rest. It should be easy to get consistent gaiting out of him under saddle, with action and plenty of sparkle for the show ring.
Traveler has been easy to train because he enjoys his lessons and is very accepting of new moves. He's been exposed to cattle, so he'd be fine on a ranch. He's very curious about new things, so he is quick to investigate something new.
Our property has a lot of steep banks and trees, through which he and his buddy (Cash in Hand, also listed here for sale) tear it up, so he'd be an eager and sure-footed trail companion. He's been started under saddle without issues and now he needs to go to a new, loving home. I have been unable to continue his training because of a serious back injury that needs surgery.
Please call with any questions. I try to check email, but I just don't get to it very often. So if you do email, please be patient.
