Sleigh with springs, brass eagles & gold leaf trim detailThe Wisconsin Carriage Co. of Janesville--- sleigh, circa 1910, bearing the original brass plate on back the back, was a 'super deluxe' variety complete with springs under the body!! The original elaborate decorative brass eagles point off the upper body & the end of each runner. It was decorated with gold leaf pin striping on all sides of the body, and as you view the photos, notice the original Christmas colors of red and green velvet seat coverings including the original rug! The sleigh is made of Oak & Maple and is in its original museum quality condition--meaning no work modernizing the sleigh was done other than to linseed oil the body and runners (with black pinstriping on the top). We re-brassed the eagle heads and front & side rails as well. We had actively used this sleigh for many winters when our children were young only for family use with no effort made to alter it for parades or shows. We originally purchased this fancy sleigh from Olson Horse and Carriage, Black Forest, Colorado in 1996. Black pin striping decorates the top of the iron runners. Also, there is a small metal step placed on the runner on either side in order to protect the runners when entering the vehicle. The coach sports a whip holder, as well. This is truly a one of a kind 'one horse' sleigh with shafts that contain tinkley zinc bells underneath. The shafts were modernized for safety reasons using the original metal parts. The shaft attaches via a long rod to the sleigh body. Included are an unrestored original shaft for a team with the same attachement to the sleigh body via a long rod through holes on both the shaft and the sleigh body. A Very fancy sleigh indeed!!! Because this is museum quality and no restoration efforts were made to change the body which would have destroyed its 'future museum quality value' the sleigh itself can be considered 'original'.
