Avon Grove aka Sahara is a registered 14 year old 16+hh black thoroughbred mare that we purchased for our lesson program. She has extremely good ground manners, not spooky or marish at all. She allowed the weanling filly to eat out of her bowl (not her foal) and is low on the totem pole in the mare pasture. She is not buddy sour, or barn sour and has had alot of training in her past. She sat for awhile and we have had her back under saddle for about 6 months but I purchased her as an advanced beginner lesson horse and that she is not. She requires a more advanced rider and probably someone who could put more time on her to get her back to where she once was than what our time allows (only working her once a week currently). You can tell by riding her that she has had some dressage training and she definately can jump, however; after jumping she gets hot. You can bring her down to a walk and she will flat walk. She can canter a 20 meter circle and knows her leads, and prefers a light hand in order to keep her going smoothly and not resistant. If heavy handed on her mouth she gets ancy (nothing an intermediate/advanced level rider couldn't handle but not an advanced beginner). I would say she is an excellent project horse for someone who wants to event or do lower level dressage and really just needs someone with good hands and time to put the rides on her. She really likes to jump and probably could go 3;3-3'6 pretty easy, but she wants to go after she jumps so best suited as a jumper or eventer where she can stretch out after a jump and not be held back. She is very brave, is beautiful, with nice confirmation, decent feet, and a really laid back personality. As a trail horse I think she would be great for an experienced rider. Really looking for the right fit for this mare, she deserves it:-) Up to date on coggins, shots and just had a power float in May of this year. video available https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ttea9QZEQ7U&t=19s UPDATE: We have been riding Sahara 3-4 times a week and she is really coming along nicely. The more we ride her, the more she softens up the higher the price. You decide, buy now and you put in the time, or wish you would have bought her before the price went up. (this video was taken on 11-2-16 for the sole purpose of showing where she is now with being worked a couple days a week. Just think how nice she will be if someone can work her for 30 days. If she keeps it up I just might keep her:-) https://youtu.be/JdSkOxbe8dE
