14 Year Old Gun Safe Horse
Big Mack (Reg: March Beast) is a 14 year old quarter horse who has been trained in the sport of cowboy mounted shooting. He’s a big, stocky gentle giant at about 15.3 hands. I bought Mack 4 years ago from someone who had been into cowboy mounted shooting as a men's level 2, but then got into race horses. Mack had 2 years off from the sport, but it didn't take any time for me to get him back into it. I rode him as a ladie's level 1 and my 15 year old niece also rode him as a ladie's level 1 this past Memorial Day. Mack has been trail ridden, has been used to pony young race horses, has competed in multiple CMSA shoots. He has been used to park cars at rodeo events, and was used for a pony ride fundraiser for our saddle club where we lead children around on him. He has been around and pastured with cattle with no issues, and would feed right in along side of them when we have unrolled hay. I have not worked him on cattle, but he would probably do very well as a ranch horse with his level head. He has great feet, good ground manners, is well trained, athletic and is very smart. I am not using him to his potential and wish for him to go to a good home that will give him a job. I would say that he would be for an intermediate rider or advanced beginner if he was to be used for mounted shooting, because he has a lot of speed in the rundown. But if you are just learning and not concerned with speed and time, he will trot around the cones for you if you ask him to. I think it wouldn't take much to get him to rate better. If he was to be used for just trail riding, he’s good with a beginning rider. Mack is a smart boy. He does a one handed stop on either side, backs, has a good lope and trot, rides bareback, has been ridden in just a halter, neck reins, has ridden double, is sensitive to leg cues, lunges, and probably knows more. I am selling Mack because I am no longer into mounted shooting, and he's just a pasture pony at this point. He's got all new shoes, registration papers, updated vaccinations and clean coggins. Health Certificate upon request.
